This year’s NC FFA Convention was held at the downtown Raleigh convention center and again, we were able to make our presence known with a beautifully designed booth. A big thanks go out to those who donated their time with the initial setup and also with the four on-stage design presentations where we demonstrated different design techniques from basic to intermediate.
It’s that time again. What all association members look forward to after all the hard work during the busy parts of the floral industry season. A time to have fun, mingle with friends and peers, and also a time to learn from others. A time to test your skills in the many competitions offered to members.
Congratulations to two lucky winners of scholarships to attend the Teleflora Scholarship Academy. Each year Teleflora provides funds to the NC Unit to offer a scholarship to attend the Scholarship Academy. Through auctions at each Unit program, the Unit raises money to provide additional scholarships. Applications are available at each program and remain in effect for two years.
. . . the Miniature Workshop was both fun and informative for attendees. Tammy Yow-Russell CFD NCCPF, the Queen of miniature competition, put together the workshop to enlighten attendees about miniature design and what fun they are to create. Twelve bold souls ranging in design experience from 1 month to more than 35 years, we won’t name
What a great turnout for this year’s NC State Fair floral arrangement competitions. This was one of the biggest fundraiser for the GTFA while at the same time picking up some brand new members. A big thanks to Pat Murray and also a big thanks to the crew over at Cleveland Plant and Flower. There were 3 shows with five categories and we have a list of all the winners included . . .
Why would a talented floral designer pack all their belongings and head out to our state? Hopefully, through this expose piece we can allow that individual to let us know why. From all of us at NCSFA, we’d like to thank you Jaclyn for telling us your story.
The highly acclaimed hands-on design school is a very detailed program where students learn principles and elements of design, design terminology, current design styles, sympathy design, and wedding design. During the course, our students learned proper technique and also learned to execute methods of design skills from beginning forms to other advanced applications.
Fun mixed with education makes for a great design outing. The little things that are picked up and learned always filter to the daily design routines and benefit us as well as our customers. According to the pics, it looks like everyone had a fantastic time.
LATEST UPDATE: We had 13 total applications received for this scholarship. After board review, this was narrowed down to three, Joseph Barnes, Scott Jackson, and Bill McPhail. At the board meeting on Friday Aug. 11th, the vote came up at which time Bill McPhail left the meeting and did not cast a vote. The board vote was to award the scholarship to Bill McPhail.
On Sunday July 23, 2017 NCSFA presented AUTUMN INSPIRATIONS: a wedding design program at Mayesh Flower Distributors in Charlotte, NC. We got to see lovely designs by our two presenters: Brandi Dennison, NCCPF from Brandi’s Botanicals in Youngsville, NC and Carol Dowd, AIFD from Botanicals in Southern Pines, NC along with our President, Sherri Suttle, NCCPF, who was there on Saturday when they all designed for the program.
