This year’s NC FFA Convention was held at the downtown Raleigh convention center and again, we were able to make our presence known with a beautifully designed booth. A big thanks go out to those who donated their time with the initial setup and also with the four on-stage design presentations where we demonstrated different design techniques from basic to intermediate. Kudos go out to Sarah Callahan, Venetia Gentzler, Danny Hinton, Don Holmes, Bill McPhail, Carol Mills, Donna Pittman, Nelson Simpson, Sherri Suttle, and Teresa Watkins. Another big thanks go out to Lihmil Wholesale and Hardins Wholesale for their continued support and flowers.
Our booth this year was a little different. We had a huge tv on display where we played slides of last year’s convention along with a stage presentation from 2016 by Doug Odom. We’d like to thank our video team for composing the short video presentation. Along with being able to talk with hundreds of students, we were also able to talk to teachers and explain what our association represented. Interest from visitors was fantastic and we’re fortunate and very proud to be able to sponsor the winning “floral competition” team with a $1500 check that will help them with expenses as they travel to Nationals in Indiana. This is a wonderful way that we can share our talent and perhaps make a difference in a young entrepreneur’s life. Who knows which one of these exhuberant teens will become the next Designer of the Year in OUR association.
Interest was so huge, that we’re proud to announce our very first FFA workshop scheduled for July 18th and 19th at Starlight Meadows in Burlington. We already have 18 confirmed students with many teachers being interested in attending. There will be 2 days full of information, from basic principles of design to understanding the color wheel. If you’d like to attend also, register on the FFA workshop event page. Other plans may include a second workshop for FFA teachers which will actually be held on Friday afternoon at this year’s convention with Friday dinner included. Stay tuned for more details on that.
