Convention 2022 a Success

Successful conventions are a result of many factors. This past convention, BLOOM, was the epitome of what can happen when dedicated individuals come together with a focus on one outcome, SUCCESS. This year’s convention was a demonstration of that dedication in overcoming the past two years of adversity and health emergencies. These dedicated individuals were not going to let a two year pandemic get in the way of their FOCUS. All of the additional hours, all the sacrifices and restless evenings and mornings paid off and are the example of what this dedication and hard work can produce.

People often ask if achievements bring happiness. I’d have to say that achievements not only bring happiness, but also reflect dedication to one’s goals. The toil and grind of learning and mastering a design skill will eventually lead to these achievements. And the end product is a mirror to hours of practice and work. Success comes only to those that believe in themselves. And when you believe, be prepared to win in your chosen profession. Sometimes actions are much more important than dreams in order to achieve something really great. Take a Chance !

To all of you NCSFA members, let’s celebrate this past successful convention and let’s look forward to what’s just over the horizon for the 2023 convention. One thing is to never lose confidence in your chosen path. Hard work and talent will meet together and produce a masterpiece again, I’m quite confident. All of you inspire with your brave actions and we look forward to seeing what comes from all of you in the future. We’ve included many image reflections below for those that didn’t get to attend the 2022 convention. We hope that you’ll join us in 2023 for a chance to share your own memories for us to record.

We’ll first begin with the results of all the floral competitions.  If you happen to run into any of these winners, congratulate them in person.  I’m sure they’ll appreciate your uplifting gesture.

DESIGN II PROGRAM - "Will You Marry Me"
secrets will be revealed from a pro .....
Saturday - 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm in the Chimney Rock Room

Flowers are much more than flowers in the 21st century, and to separate yourselves from the competition, you need to do much more than just flowers.  This program will open your eyes to possibilities that have worked well for Fresh Affairs and Michael will share some of their secrets that will help you take a different approach to your consults and services that you should be offering!

Michael Whaley Aifd Cfd has over three decades of experience in the floral industry and has been involved with every aspect during his career. He has a passion for continuing self-education and, more importantly, sharing that acquired knowledge with other designers in the industry. Over the years he has studied with some of the greatest designers in the world including Gregor Lersch, Hitomi Gilliam, Tomas De Bruyne and Per Benjamin among others.  Michael has been awarded NCSFA Designer of the Year and Southern Retail Florist Association Designer of the Year.  His love of interpretive design led him to The Jim Treadway Cup for interpretive design and after winning this coveted competition three times he was inducted into the Jim Treadway Hall of Fame.  He was also a regional representative for Americas Cup, Great American Design Competition.  Michael was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers and has been heavily involved with programs presented at AIFD National Symposium. He is currently the chairman of the National Education Committee, serves as vice president of the Southern Chapter of AIFD, and is an AIFD certified evaluator/judge.  Michael currently works as Creative Director for Fresh Affairs, an upscale wedding and special events studio based in Raleigh, NC.
