Submit Your Entry for a $1,000 Scholarship from the Floral Design Institute

The North Carolina State Florist Association has received a $1000 scholarship from the Floral Design Institute. NCSFA will award the scholarship to one lucky individual at this year’s convention in Asheville, NC on the dates of August 11th, 12th and 13th. Any member of the NCSFA may apply to win. The Board of Directors and the Executive Board will read the entries to determine the winner at the board meeting in Asheville.

The scholarship must be awarded within the calendar year of 2017 and the recipient must register and complete their training within the 12-month period following the date of the award. Once awarded, the scholarship may not be transferred.

The scholarship may be used for any class or classes offered by the Floral Design Institute. This includes all of our certification programs, advanced workshops and business seminars. It includes both our classroom programs and online classes. Scholarship winners will have a wide range of classes to choose from, appropriate for the beginning designer, the experienced designer and the advanced designer.

The scholarship may not be used for the purchase of floral supplies, DVDs, tools, or books.

There is no cash value to the scholarship and there will be no cash refunds.

If the $1,000 value of the scholarship is more than the cost of the class chosen, then the winner may select an additional class or classes up to the amount of the scholarship.

If the tuition of the class exceeds the $1,000 value of the scholarship, then the winner or your organization will pay the difference between the cost of the class and the amount of the scholarship.

FDI does not guarantee that space will be available in a chosen class. We recommend that the winner make decisions and select classes as far in advance as possible.

DESIGN II PROGRAM - "Will You Marry Me"
secrets will be revealed from a pro .....
Saturday - 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm in the Chimney Rock Room

Flowers are much more than flowers in the 21st century, and to separate yourselves from the competition, you need to do much more than just flowers.  This program will open your eyes to possibilities that have worked well for Fresh Affairs and Michael will share some of their secrets that will help you take a different approach to your consults and services that you should be offering!

Michael Whaley Aifd Cfd has over three decades of experience in the floral industry and has been involved with every aspect during his career. He has a passion for continuing self-education and, more importantly, sharing that acquired knowledge with other designers in the industry. Over the years he has studied with some of the greatest designers in the world including Gregor Lersch, Hitomi Gilliam, Tomas De Bruyne and Per Benjamin among others.  Michael has been awarded NCSFA Designer of the Year and Southern Retail Florist Association Designer of the Year.  His love of interpretive design led him to The Jim Treadway Cup for interpretive design and after winning this coveted competition three times he was inducted into the Jim Treadway Hall of Fame.  He was also a regional representative for Americas Cup, Great American Design Competition.  Michael was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers and has been heavily involved with programs presented at AIFD National Symposium. He is currently the chairman of the National Education Committee, serves as vice president of the Southern Chapter of AIFD, and is an AIFD certified evaluator/judge.  Michael currently works as Creative Director for Fresh Affairs, an upscale wedding and special events studio based in Raleigh, NC.
